Day Rides
Best of Cape
Town MTB
Cape Town has an amazing number of mountain-bike trails, on the foothills of Table Mountain, in the Durbanville wine region and out in the Stellenbosch, Paarl and Overberg mountains. We have selected the very best of them, and added some local culture, refreshments and food.
Three hand-picked classics
Half-day guided rides for intermediate riders, each one finished off with something
good to eat or drink.
Foresters Arms · Newlands Forest & Kirstenbosch Loop
A classic intermediate ride and a firm favourite with the local Cape Town mountain-bike community. The route includes some short but challenging climbs, great singletrack and an amazing stretch through indigenous forest in Newlands Forest and the Kirstenbosch botanical gardens.
We start at the legendary watering hole, the Foresters Arms (or “Forries” to the locals), and climb up into the foothills of Table Mountain through the forest, riding the contour toward Kirstenbosch and the turning point at Constantia Neck, with incredible views across the peninsula to False Bay and the Hottentots Holland beyond. We take a different route back
along fast singletrack through the cork trees, ending at Forries
with a tasting of six local craft beers and some of the best pizza
in the Cape.
Haas Coffee to the
Kings Blockhouse
Cape Town has a rich and vibrant coffee culture that is part of the local cycling scene, and many will tell you Haas serves the best brew in town, which is where this ride begins. It covers some of the famous Cape
Epic prologue route, with a fair
bit of climbing.
We head up challenging singletrack toward Rhodes Memorial in the foothills of Table Mountain, then around the mountain with stunning views of the city and Table Bay below, climbing all the way to the Kings Blockhouse, with an optional extra loop via the infamous Dead Man’s Tree. From the blockhouse it is a fast descent with great drop-offs and adrenaline-filled singletrack, ending back at Haas for a well-deserved coffee, or a beer at Barristers if
you prefer.
Constantia Neck to Lion’s Head & Camps Bay Beach
One of Adriaan’s favourites, this ride starts and finishes in different places, making it a real adventure. We begin at Constantia Neck with a coffee or cool drink at La Parada, then head up the mountain for great views of False Bay and beyond, riding the contour path through Kirstenbosch and Newlands Forest before working around the face of Table Mountain to Dead Man’s Tree.
There is a lot of ascent and descent as the route traverses the foothills of Table Mountain, with an optional extra 5 km loop around the base of Lion’s Head and Signal Hill, some very challenging singletrack rewarded with wonderful views of Table Bay, the Waterfront and Robben Island. The ride ends at Camps Bay beach with a swim in the sea, before a beer at one of the beach-side cafés.
